Giving Tuesday is a day dedicated to encouraging people to do good, raise money, and make a difference to causes around the world. Over the last decade, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
There are lots of ways to give today. You can volunteer your time; donate money; share your skills; campaign for change; donate goods or clothes; organise a community event or a coffee morning. The list really is endless.
If you fancy giving to Shelter Scotland this #GivingTuesday, here are 5 ideas to get you started.

From serving customers in one of our 30 shops to being part of our work with clients – there are so many ways you can volunteer with us. We welcome all applicants of 14+ especially if you have lived experience of homelessness or housing issues. Email VolunteerScotland@shelter.org.uk

Be part of the fight. With your help, we’ll empower private renters, ensure more social homes are built and be there for anyone fighting housing injustice. Sign up now to stay up to date on our work.
DONATE YOUR UNWANTED ITEMS
Having a clearout? You can send your unwanted items to our charity shops by using Shelter Scotland’s free Collect+ service. All you need is some packaging to pack up your donations. It’s easy, free and you’ll be helping fight the housing emergency with every item you donate.
We would love to accept any of your pre-loved goods in excellent condition. We’re especially in need of:
- Clothing and footwear: premium quality branded or designer clothes and shoes
- Accessories: including bags, sunglasses, belts, and hats
- Jewellery: either modern or vintage
- Books: any genre, in good condition
- Homeware: ornaments or collectibles, either modern or vintage

HELP US BE THERE
The housing emergency is having a huge impact on children and families. No child should ever have to put on a brave face when experiencing homelessness, especially during Christmas. Yet, in Scotland, more than 8,000 children who are homeless, do.
Many children will spend Christmas this year crammed into one room. Families will be sleeping on sofas, staying with friends and relations, with no permanent place to call home.
